Jacob Stallings has struggled at the plate lately, staying under this line in five of his last seven games. His underlying metrics don’t inspire much confidence either, with a .259 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) and a .196 expected batting average (xBA). Today, he draws a tough matchup against Patrick Corbin — a pitcher who has consistently gotten the better of him. In 17 career plate appearances against Corbin, Stallings has managed just one hit. Given his recent form and poor history in this matchup, I feel strongly about the under in this spot.
Bryce Harper MORE THAN 0.5 Hits
Bryce Harper has hit a bit of a rough patch over the past week, but he’s in a prime position to bounce back today against a familiar foe in Eric Fedde. Harper has seen Fedde plenty throughout his career, stepping to the plate 27 times and hitting an impressive .500 with five walks — a clear sign of comfort and confidence in the matchup. Given that track record and the favorable conditions, this sets up as a great spot for Harper to get back on track and at the very least notch a hit.
