Pick #1: Gabriel Vilardi – Winnipeg Jets – More than 0.5 Points

Vilardi picked up an assist in the opening night win over the Edmonton Oilers, and looks poised to take another step forward as he grows accustomed to life in the NHL. The former 11th overall pick finally started to emerge last season, scoring 11 goals and adding five assists over the last 16 games of the regular season. He followed that up with four helpers in the five playoff games against Colorado.

Vilardi is slated to skate alongside Kyle Connor and Mark Scheiefele on the top forward line and #1 power-play unit. That should pay dividends this evening as the Blackhawks allowed an ugly 3.52 goals against per game last season while also owning just a 75.8% penalty kill. I will start my entry with him to pick up at least one point in this one while also mixing in the slightly more proven Kyle Connor +0.5 points as well.

Pick #2: Sebastian Aho – Carolina Hurricanes – More than 0.5 Points

Aho posted 89 points in 78 games last regular season, then tacked on four goals and eight assists in 11 playoff games. He was a beast on his home ice all season, racking up 20 goals and 29 assists in 41 home games. Tonight, he faces a Tampa Bay team that may still have some offensive firepower, but is almost certainly going to be hurting on the back-end for the first time in almost a decade.

Aho picked up at least one point in 53 of 78 regular season games played last season (68%). In home games, that number shoots up to 33 times in 41 games (80.5%). The current .72X payout implies roughly a 59% hit rate. Count me in here, as I expect Carolina to have some success.
